Director's Welcome

We hear it all the time: “What exactly is New Hope?” Our students call it "the question!" Because New Hope doesn’t easily fall into a traditional institutional category, it is easy to get confused. In fact, we often laugh about how many words it sometimes takes to explain who we are and what we do.

Here’s our best summary to date:

New Hope provides high-quality small-group education for middle and high school homeschooling students on Boston’s North Shore and beyond. We offer full-year courses in a variety of disciplines, as well as 6-12-week short courses and workshops.

You could say that New Hope is more like the university model than the standard American middle or high school. Parents register their kids for only the courses they need or want. Every homeschooling family is different, and every family’s curriculum choices require specific supplemental coursework. So New Hope offers an array of courses in all the core subject areas as well as a number of electives so that families have lots of options. In short, we see it as our job to provide a piece of what our families need to continue homeschooling through the middle and high school years.

This is New Hope’s 20th year! We started offering courses around beloved founder, Joan Smith’s kitchen table in the fall of 1999. At that time we had 13 students, two instructors, and a lot of excitement. The need was real, and New Hope grew steadily into the much larger community we are today. Now situated in beautiful downtown Boxford, with thirteen staff members and over a hundred families, New Hope’s mission remains the same. For two decades now we have partnered with parents to achieve their homeschooling goals.

We are thankful to God for His kind provision, and we continue to see His grace at work in our community. It is with thanksgiving that we give all the Glory to Jesus Christ!
