Acting and New Rep at New Hope!

Acting and New Rep at New Hope!

Today at lunch, we had two guests:

Haley Sherwood ("Lady MacBeth" for those who saw her recent performance) from New Rep Theater came to tell students about an awesome summer opportunity for students called SummerSTAGE2. It runs July 6-26, 2015, and is a unique program for dedicated students entering grades 8 through 12. Morning classes are devoted to strengthening each student’s creative toolbox. Classes in acting, movement, voice and speech, stage combat, improvisation, and creative writing allow students to expand their theatrical skills and grow as actors, artists, and human beings.  Students put their skills to practice with afternoon rehearsals and two public performances of William Shakespeare’s As You Like It.

Maggie Brooks, a former student of Mr. Drummond's at Gordon College, came to talk to students about a possible acting workshop next year (2015-16) at New Hope. She and her fiancé have had professional acting experience and are eager to share their love of theater with students through workshops, practicing scenes and dialog, and learning and refining their craft. We are just exploring initial interest in this. If you'd like to learn more and get on an email list but didn't catch Maggie today, email her (maggie.brooks@gordon.edu) to get more information.
