Leslie Arevalo was born and raised in Guatemala City, Guatemala.  She majored  in Education, specializing in the English language, from  “Universidad del Valle” of Guatemala.

She began working as an elementary school teacher at “Escuela Cristiana Verbo” in Guatemala.  The children there inspired her with their desire to learn a language other than their native Spanish. Her teaching experience included ages kindergarten through middle school, in more than one school in the city.

During her college years, she participated in missionary trips to the Western Sahara, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Panama. When school was not in session, she volunteered with Foreign Missionary teachers, supporting the building of schools and educating less fortunate families in the mountains of Guatemala. These experiences expanded her worldview and her creativity, serving in many diverse classroom settings.

After 12 years of teaching in Guatemala, Leslie moved to Beverly, MA where she lives with her husband and two children. She enjoys cooking, reading, working around the house, and a passion to help others.  She combines her teaching experience and creativity to supplement her own children’s education with Spanish lessons.  The family practices their Spanish skills on their yearly trips back to Guatemala.

Leslie enjoys being part of the New Hope community.  She hopes to see her students fall in love with Spanish, just as her Spanish students fell in love with English!
